We Have The Best Guides In The Business!!

“Seeing the two of them atop their horses -- sometimes amid shoulder-high saw grass and briars, cowboy hats bobbing above the brush -- adds immeasurably to the hunting experience in this palm-and-palmetto-studded paradise.”                              Mike Handley, Editor of Rack Magazine

Our highly skilled staff is here to assure one and all a safe and exhilarating hunt. Important safety rules and hunt strategy will be discussed in order for you to feel at ease with our personnel and our hunting procedures. Making everyone comfortable with the hunt is key. Personal attention will allow you to harvest your trophy from a quiet spot and stalk to the thrill of chasing a wild hog with dogs! Our guides will not stop until their hunters have what they came for, whether ill tempered trophy boars or magnificent exotic game. We encourage youth hunters to become immersed in the thrill of the hunt with heart-felt instruction and acknowledgement of their achievement. Our guides will make them feel at ease and confident with this very important adventure.

Some places will call them “guides”, but ours are true cowboys with cowboy ethics and cowboy style. Whether riding horses on a wild hog chase or guiding you on a one-on-one exotic game hunt, our guides are experts at what they do. Their skill and knowledge assure every one of a SAFE and EXCITING HUNT found nowhere other than Dixie Sportsman’s Hunting Lodge.

Darrin Plank - Ranch Manager and A+ Guide.
Darrin is from Chiefland, Florida, and has been with Dixie Sportsman’s since we opened our hunting preserve to the public back in 1996. He is a veteran hog hunter and knows the dogs by their bark and what the bark means. His flair for finding trophy game wherever it may be hiding and his enthusiasm for the quest will assure you an unforgettable hunt while keeping your safety of the utmost importance. Darrin is GREAT with novice and youth hunters making everyone feel confident and at ease.

Darrin Plank, bottom right

When he’s not working here, he’s out rounding-up cattle and being a cowboy. We feel very fortunate to have Darrin on our staff. He’s been a real contribution to our continuing success. (He has a sense of humor too, so be careful.)

Tommy Butler is our second Grade-A Guide. Tommy is from Cross City, Florida, and is known for keeping the hunter’s safety first. Tommy always says, “I want you right here in my hip pocket (patting his pocket), we’ll keep em’ off ya.” Don’t be fooled by Tommy’s quiet demeanor, he’ll get the job done.

Johnathan Whitley - Ranch Foreman andA-1 Skinner
Johnathan is a native of Bell, Florida, and is a skilled skinner with years of experience. Expert capping of an animal is a true art and is essential in constructing a breathtaking trophy mount. Johnathan works hand-in-hand with our taxidermist, American Sportsman Taxidermy, to assure that your mount will be a trophy of which you will be proud.
After the hunt, he will clean, quarter and cape your trophy. If you desire, we will make all arrangements for the meat processing through Smokin’ Oak Sausage Company (USDA approved processor) -- or you can take your harvest with you…just bring your coolers…we’ll supply the ice for FREE.

All you have to do is enjoy yourself…We’ll take care of the rest!
